The first Super Brain template was built around Memory. This is because, I, Jeff, have a terrible short term memory. So, I used it as a place to store information I might forget: people’s names, where I put things, and the dates and details of notable events in my life.
This grew to become a comprehensive extended memory.
Now, the SuperBrain OS is as much about memory as anything else. Perhaps most important to this function is The Update Feed.
The Update Feed
It occured to me that all I really needed to keep track of things was my own internal feed of time-stamped entries. So, I created a simple database with a relation to a memory categories database.
- Now I could simply add when I got the car’s oil changed and tag it with #Car.
- I could add when we go our HVAC replaced and add it to the Update feed tagged with #House.
- When I had a doctor’s apopintment, I could add an entry and take any notes while I’m with the doctor, and then tag the entry with #Health.
All of these entries got an automatic time stamp. So, now whenever I need to remember when something happened, I just check my update feed.
Timelines
Two of the memory categories are #Accomplishments and #Regrets. You can use these as highlights and lowlights, or whatever else.
This is something I’ve found very useful in my own life to stop mulling over regrets from 20 years ago, and to appreciate how much I’ve done in the last year.
Treasure Hunts
One of the databases in the Memory section is called “Where did I put…?” and this came up after losing the dog’s nail clippers one too many times. So, this quick access database is for taking note of when you put something away and think “yeah, I’ll remember that I put that there.”
No you won’t, write it down.
